Myriad Alien Dalvik To Open The Android Experience To Other Platforms

Myriad Group AG today announced the launch of Myriad Alien Dalvik, which enables Android apps to run on non-Android platforms. Myriad Alien Dalvik will commercially become available later this year on the Meego platform, with more operating systems to follow. The first demonstration will take place next week at Mobile World Congress 2011 in Barcelona on 14th-17th February. Check out the video demo on the Nokia N900 after the break..

From a user perspective, Alien Dalvik will be completely transparent. Applications will appear as native and will be seamlessly installed on the device without user disruption. The end user will simply notice access to a wider range of applications, brought to the device via the Android Market.

“The proliferation of Android has been staggering, but there is still room for growth. By extending Android to other platforms, we are opening up the market even further, creating new audiences and revenue opportunities,” said Simon Wilkinson, Chief Executive Officer, Myriad Group.

Will Alien Dalvik have an impact on the Symbian and Meego developer community? Its hard to say at the moment, but if Android apps become widely available across all platforms, it may make sense for developers to utilize this opportunity to reach more users by creating an android app instead.

So what does this mean for Meego? Let us know what you think in the comments below.
